Welcome to our 2nd quarter edition of our Integrated Reefer News in 2023. Again, we are pleased to provide you with a selection of news from MCI.
Jumping directly into Star Cool features and benefits, we are pleased to announce our latest add-on option, the Sekstant Door Sensor. We are launching this option to improve reefer security by registering door events in Star Cool reefers. The sensor captures door events both on and off power, and is integrated with the Star Cool controller, ensuring seamless integration with all other reefer data and timestamps. The device provides valuable insights into undesired door openings, smuggling and theft, and ensures containers are safe and secure, even in remote locations. Furthermore, the Sekstant Door Sensor has a battery lifetime of more than 10 years.
The door sensor commercial launch demonstrates Star Cool again being at the forefront of providing value and addressing our customer’s needs with the complete reefer solution including box, cooling, device and sensors. This fact was also acknowledged during a visit by representatives from our owners, A.P. Moller – Maersk A/S to MCI headquarters in Tinglev. The direction given by our owners was clear – differentiation is key to long term success in the competitive market and placing the customer and their needs (both needs that are known today and unknow needs of the future) at the centre of our strategy, creating the right foundation for MCI to be successful in the future.
On an organizational note, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Guido Maune as the new Managing Director of Maersk Container Industry Qingdao Ltd. (MCIQ), effective 1 July 2023. Guido brings with him over 20 years of extensive manufacturing management experience and holds both a Diploma in Economical Business Engineering and a Ph.D. from the University of Paderborn.
Prior to joining MCIQ, Guido served as the General Manager of Melitta Household Products (Shengzhen) Co., Ltd, where he successfully led and developed the production plant for household products. Previously, he held the position as Senior Vice President of Operations at Hella GmbH & Co in Shanghai, and prior Plant Manager at Volkswagen-FAW Platform Ltd. in Foshan. Guido is a German national, who has resided in China for almost 16 years and is fluent in Chinese. With his unique combination of production management experience and cultural understanding, I am confident that Guido will become an excellent and valuable leader for MCIQ.
In this edition you will also read about our offering of remanufactured spare parts for Star Cool reefers, as part of our commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental impact. With more than 400,000 Star Cool machines out in service, whereof the oldest are from 2005, then a natural demand for quality refurbished parts aspires, without scarifying on quality and service requirements.
