Department: HSSE
Position: Safety Engineer
Employed since: July, 2019

Coolest part of my job:
Working with my great colleagues as part of the coolest team

When did you start at MCI and what motivated you to join the company?
I joined MCI on 1 July 2019 as Safety Engineer. I was looking for new challenges and HR called me to discuss some new opportunities. I didn’t know much about Maersk at this point in time but when I talked to my wife, she knew more about Maersk and told me it is a good company. MCI can offer me some great career opportunities.

What are your tasks and responsibility areas?
As a safety engineer, my work includes site safety assessments, PPE management, drawing up department reports, incident investigation, building my team implementation skills and carrying out safety assessments.

What do you like most about your job?
The fact that my knowledge can be used to directly help my colleagues and to create an even better and safer work environment. Safety is high priority for our management, which means that we need to constantly focus on own and our colleagues’ safety everyday by building a stronger safety culture. Safety at work is the most important thing for everyone.

What is the purpose of your job?
What I do is to make Maersk a safer workplace. When I see colleagues come in to work happy and go home safe each evening, I feel very happy.

Why do you think MCI is a great place to work?
My colleagues are great and we help each other like a family. This means that I come to work every day feeling happy and positive. We get good leadership support. We have a good safety culture and have established learning teams where we discuss safety and how we can increase our safety awareness.

Safety Engineer, HSSE

What does a typical workday look like for you?
I come to work every day around 7.45 and then breakfast and get dressed for work. My first job is to check our internal safety reports. During the day, I join our daily management meeting and report on the main safety highlights. I also join our daily departmental meeting. Right now, I am working on a safety improvement project where I am responsible for a safety fence together with colleagues from other departments. After lunch I rest in the dormitory. In the afternoon, we have safety meetings with other departments. I then do Power BI and other reporting tasks. Ultimately, I think that every day is different and I really like this way of working.
