History

Maersk Container Industry (MCI) has been developing and supplying top-quality cargo transportation solutions since 1991. A winning combination of innovation, quality and reliability lies behind our ability to create technologically advanced, cost-efficient shipping equipment.

The original idea behind MCI was the brainchild of a technical manager at Odense Steel Shipyard, Niels Peter Raun. On his travels to Asia, he was disappointed by the lack of quality and supply security, as well as by the high prices of equipment supplies to Maersk Line. Upon returning home, he decided that there must be a better, more cost-effective and reliable way of obtaining the containers the company needed. In 1991, MCI was born.

The primary goal of the new company was - and still is - to develop and supply customers with top-quality containers and cargo transportation equipment with the lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
