Learning Philosophy

The development of the competencies in the MCI Group involves a strengthening of both personal and professional skills. This can be encouraged by means of the targeted efforts of the individual employee, by providing appropriate organisational conditions for individuals and organisational learning, and by ensuring that the organisation utilises the individual employee's competences in the best possible way.

Our learning philosophy is based on the idea that personal and professional learning is most effective when it involves hands-on experience. We also believe that the development of knowledge and skills ought to take place whenever it is needed, so that employees can put theory into practice immediately.

MCI is convinced that the right courses at the right time can add great value to the continuous learning process for our employees. A prerequisite is, of course, that the knowledge acquired from attending a course, will be utilised in the daily work through on-the-job training, delegation of relevant responsibilities and interaction with colleagues.

The learning philosophy within the MCI Group is based on the '70-20-10' Principle of A.P. Moller - Maersk:

  • 70% of an employee's learning is achieved through constant on-the-job encouragement and stimulation - through delegation of responsibility and job rotation.
  • 20% of learning is achieved through daily contact with colleagues and management. Discussion, feedback, coaching and appraisals are some of the methods used.
  • 10% of learning results from more formal teaching methods, such as e-learning, classroom teaching or external courses. This kind of teaching will always be closely linked to the specific tasks and challenges presented by the current or future job.
